The newly formed Capital City Theatre, a regional music theater company in Madison, Wisconsin, will launch its debut season in June with VIOLET. Christine Dwyer (former Elphaba – Broadway; former s/b Elphaba – Broadway; former Elphaba, s/b Elphaba, ensemble, u/s Elphaba – 2nd Ntl. Tour) will star in the title role; additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Written by Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley, VIOLET made its Broadway debut last season starring Sutton Foster. VIOLET “is the story of a young woman’s quest for beauty amidst the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. Facially disfigured in a childhood accident, Violet dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith. Convinced that a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her, she hops a Greyhound bus and starts the journey of a lifetime.”
Performances are scheduled for June 12-21 at Music Hall on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. For more information, visit CapitalCityTheatre.org.
