Taye Diggs to Cohost Drama League Tribute to Audra McDonald

Taye Diggs
Taye Diggs (former Fiyero – Broadway) and Phylicia Rashad will cohost the February 11, 2013 tribute to five-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald. According to Playbill.com, “The Musical Celebration of Broadway will feature songs from McDonald’s many Broadway triumphs, includingThe Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, Carousel, Ragtime, Master Class, Marie Christine, 110 In The Shade; her operatic and concert work, including her celebrated turns in Passion and Mahagonny; and her award-winning albums “Way Back To Paradise,” “How Glory Goes,” “Happy Songs” and “Build A Bridge.””

Idina Menzel
Idina Menzel (Elphaba – Original Broadway Cast, Original West End Cast) and Taye Diggs (former Fiyero – Broadway) appeared in the movie musical RENT, reprising the roles of Maureen and Benny, which they originated on Broadway. Katie Webber (former ensemble, u/s Nessarose – Broadway) also appeared in the RENT movie as a Floor Dancer.
Christina DeCicco (former Glinda – 1st Nat’l Tour) performed the role of Peron’s Mistress in a production of EVITA at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Currently, she is the alternate for the lead role of Eva Peron on Broadway.
Kathy Fitzgerald (former Madame Morrible – Broadway), Andy Kelso (Fiyero – 1st Nat’l Tour) and Tory Ross (former Midwife, u/s Madame Morrible – 2nd Nat’l Tour) appeared in the movie musical THE PRODUCERS.

Taye Diggs (former temporary Fiyero – Broadway) has been on the TV series “Private Practice” since 2007.

0Dianne Pilkington (former Glinda – West End; former s/b Glinda – West End) played the role of a blind opera singer in the film “The Wolfman”, but her scene was cut from the final version. However, she can still be seen in the deleted scenes on the DVD.
Julia Murney (former Elphaba – 1NT, Broadway), Idina Menzel (original Elphaba – Broadway, London), and Taye Diggs (former Fiyero – Broadway) all appeared in the off-Broadway production of Andrew Lippa’s “The Wild Party”, originating the roles of ‘Queenie’, ‘Kate’, and ‘Mr. Black’, respectively.
Louise Dearman (Glinda – West End) is the voice singing in the ‘Confused.com’ adverts on British television. Her puppy, Alan, is also featured in the most recent advert.

David Garrison (former Wizard – San Francisco, Los Angeles, Broadway, 1NT) is best known to television audiences for his role as Steve Rhoades on the series “Married…with Children”.
Rachel Potter (former ensemble, u/s Glinda – 2NT), Libby Servais (ensemble, u/s Glinda – Broadway, former s/b Glinda – San Francisco; former ensemble, u/s Glinda – 2NT ), and Lauren Ashley Zakrin (ensemble, u/s Glinda – 1NT), all appeared on the MTV (Musical Television) reality series “Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods”.

Stephanie J. Block (former Elphaba – 1NT, Broadway; former u/s Elphaba – San Francisco tryout) is married to fellow Wicked alumnus Sebastian Arcelus (former Fiyero – 1NT, Broadway); the two met after starring together in the show and married in October 2007. They are not the only Wicked couples – Deedee Magno Hall (former Nessarose – 1NT, San Francisco) and Cliffton Hall (former Fiyero – 1NT, San Francisco) are married and have a son together, and Idina Menzel’s (former Elphaba – Broadway, West End) husband Taye Diggs joined the show briefly in early 2004 as Fiyero when Norbert Leo Butz (former Fiyero – Broadway, and funnily enough the husband of original Broadway Nessarose, Michelle Federer) became injured.
Emily Tierney (former u/s Nessarose – West End) was at one point considered as a Glinda cover in “Wicked” but was deemed to be too tall – however she is now starring in this role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new West End production of “The Wizard of Oz”!
Willemijn Verkaik (former Elphaba – Stuttgart, Oberhausen) does not speak German as her first language; she is originally from the Netherlands and worked on the script with a voice coach in order to perfect her dialect for the German production of “Wicked”.
