Block, Haynie & Mendez Set for Second Stage Theatre’s Spring Gala
0Stephanie J. Block (former Elphaba – Broadway, 1st Ntl. Tour; former ensemble, u/s Elphaba – Pre-Broadway), F. Michael Haynie (Boq – Broadway) and Lindsay Mendez (upcoming Elphaba – Broadway) will perform in Second Stage Theatre’s annual spring gala, which will be held May 20 in Manhattan. The evening will begin at 6 PM with cocktails; dinner and the performances begin at 7 PM at the Best Buy Theatre. Founded in 1979, Second Stage Theatre produces a “diverse range of premieres and new interpretations of America’s best contemporary theatre.”
The Gala will include drinks, dinner and performance, as well as a live auction that includes the opportunity to bid on special evenings that feature Broadway stars. Tables of ten are priced at $12,500 (director table), $25,000 (producer table) and $50,000 (VIP table). Ticket pricing is as follows: $1,500 (director ticket), $2,500 (producer ticket) and $5,000 (VIP ticket). Tickets for party and performance only are $50 and $100.

Ms. Block has been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her performance in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD as Miss Alice Nutting/Edwin Drood/Dick Datchery.
Ms. Ashford has been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical for her performance in KINKY BOOTS as Lauren.

Tour; former ensemble, u/s Elphaba – Pre-Broadway) and Lindsay Mendez (upcoming Elphaba – Broadway) have both been nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for their performances in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD and DOGFIGHT, respectively. Andy Karl (former Fiyero – Broadway) has been nominated for Outstanding Featured Actor in a musical, for his performance in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD. Annaleigh Ashford (former Glinda – Chicago, Broadway; former ensemble, u/s Glinda – 1st Ntl. Tour) has been nominated for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical, for her performance in KINKY BOOTS.

The 58th Annual Drama Desk Awards will take place on May 19 at Town Hall.

Ms. Verkaik has been nominated for Favorite Replacement for her performance in WICKED.

Stephanie J. Block To Perform, Sign DROOD CDs at Barnes & Noble, 3/8
0Stephanie J. Block (former Elphaba – Broadway, 1st Ntl. Tour; former ensemble, u/s Elphaba – Pre-Broadway), who currently stars in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD on Broadway, will appear with other DROOD cast members at a CD signing at a Barnes and Noble in New York City. The CD being signed is the New 2013 Broadway Cast Recording of THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD. Ms. Block will perform, along with actresses Jessie Mueller (current cast member) and Betsy Wolfe (who was part of the original revival cast). They will be joined by other cast members for the CD signing. The event takes place at the Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Upper East Side (86th & Lexington Avenue) on March 8 at 4:3opm.

BROADWAY BACKWARDS is “annual celebration where gays and lesbians see their stories told through the great songs of musical theatre sung by their favorite Broadway performers”. The event takes place March 18 at 8pm at the Palace Theatre in New York City.
