Kathy Fitzgerald, Julia Murney and Stephen Schwartz Will Honor Ben Vereen at LaGuardia High
0Kathy Fitzgerald (former Madame Morrible – Broadway), Julia Murney (former Elphaba – Broadway, 1st Ntl. Tour) and WICKED composer Stephen Schwartz will celebrate Ben Vereen (former Wizard – Broadway, Chicago) in MAGIC TO DO on May 20 at LaGuardia Arts High School in Manhattan. LaGuardia is honoring Vereen with the school’s first annual LaGuardia Arts Hall of Fame. The 7:30 PM evening will feature musical performances by Broadway stars and students from the high school.
The LaGuardia Arts Gala is the school’s premier fundraiser. For tickets, ranging from $50-$250, visit laguardiahs.org/gala

0Idina Menzel (Elphaba – Original Broadway Cast, Original West End Cast) played the role of Nancy Tremaine in the 2007 film ENCHANTED. This was a notable role for Ms. Menzel as it was a non-singing role. Stephen Schwartz, the composer of WICKED, wrote the lyrics for ENCHANTED.
Ben Vereen (former Wizard – Broadway, Chicago) is the godfather of R&B recording artist Usher.
Katie Webber (former ensemble, u/s Nessarose – Broadway) was a semifinalist on the third season of the singing competition AMERICAN IDOL. She was in the top 32.

0John Rubinstein (former Wizard – Los Angeles) played the title role in the Original Broadway Cast of the musical PIPPIN opposite Ben Vereen (former Wizard – Broadway, Chicago), who played the “Leading Player”. The music and lyrics of PIPPIN are by WICKED composer Stephen Schwartz.
Pippa Grandison (former Elphaba – Sydney) played the role of “Nicole” in the 1994 film MURIEL’S WEDDING.
Jo Anne Worley (former Madame Morrible – Los Angeles) voiced the role of the Wardrobe in Disney’s 1991 animated film, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

0Sebastian Arcelus (former Fiyero – Broadway, 1NT) and Mark Jacoby (The Wizard – 1NT) both starred in the Original Broadway Cast of the holiday musical ELF. Mr. Arcelus performed the lead role of “Buddy” while Mr. Jacoby performed the role of “Walter”. Jan Neuberger (former Ensemble/Midwife, u/s Madame Morrible – Original Broadway Cast) performed “Grandma Who” in the Original Broadway Cast of the holiday musical HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. Katherine Tokarz (former Swing – Broadway) and Joseph Medeiros (former Ensemble, u/s Boq – Broadway) performed as “Rhoda/Ensemble” and “Quintet Member” in the holiday musical WHITE CHRISTMAS on Broadway.
Katie Rose Clarke (Glinda – 1NT; former Glinda – Broadway) and David Burnham (former Fiyero – Broadway) both appear in the PBS “Live From The Lincoln Center’ broadcast of THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. Ms. Clarke played “Clara Johnson” while Mr. Burnham performed in the ensemble. Later both would perform opposite each other in the 1st National Tour of the same musical, this time, with Mr. Burnham playing the role of “Fabrizio Naccarelli”, the role he understudied on Broadway.
Ben Vereen (former Wizard – Broadway, Chicago) played the role of “ ‘Chicken’ George Moore” in the 1977 miniseries ROOTS, based on the popular novel by Alex Haley.

2TV star Jackée Harry was once rumored to play Madame Morrible on tour. She confirmed the rumor, but it unfortunately fell through.
Aaron Tveit (former Fiyero – Broadway), Kyle Dean Massey (Fiyero – 1NT; former Fiyero – Broadway; former ensemble & u/s Fiyero – Broadway, 1NT), Brian Crum (former ensemble - Chicago, Broadway, 1NT, and Alex Brightman (former Boq – Broadway) have all been in productions of the musical next to normal. Additionally, Annaleigh Ashford (former Glinda – Chicago, Broadway; former ensemble & u/s Glinda – 1NT) was in a workshop of the show when it was previously titled Feeling Electric.
Ben Vereen (former Wizard – Broadway) was in the original Broadway cast of the groundbreaking musical, Hair.
Ben Vereen to Play “Pilate” in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
0Ben Vereen (former Wizard – Broadway, Chicago) will play “Pontius Pilate” in The Musical Theatre of Houston’s production of JESUS CHRIS SUPERSTAR. Mr. Vereen previously was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of “Judas” in the Original Broadway Cast of the same musical. (He later went on to win a Tony Award for his role in the musical PIPPIN, with music and lyrics by WICKED composer Stephen Schwartz.)
