According to this article, Amanda Harrison (former Elphaba – Melbourne and Sydney) has officially left “Wicked” in an effort to protect her voice. As many fans know, Ms. Harrison had to take quite a bit of time off due to the demands of the role and the role of Elphaba is now being shared by Jemma Stevenson (former s/b for Elphaba – Melbourne, Sydney) and Pippa Grandison (Elphaba – Sydney).

Cast Update: Sydney Production

1

The producers of Sydney’s production of “Wicked” have finally updated us on the cast situation – or as many have named it, the 2009 Australian Elphaba Crisis. Jemma Rix (standby for Elphaba) and Pippa Grandison (temporary Elphaba) will be sharing the role for January and February with Patrice Tipoki (former understudy) as standby for Elphaba. Amanda Harrison is apparently set to return.

We’ll keep you updated on this as more news arrives.

Jennifer DiNoia Goes "Down Under" with Wicked!

1

On Monday, November 2, 2009, Jennifer DiNoia, standby for Elphaba on Broadway (previously u/s and s/b Elphaba in Wicked: Chicago) got on a plane to Sydney to join the Australian cast of Wicked as standby to Jemma Rix. As is well known, lead Amanda Harrison has been rather ill as of late and has not performed very often, playing her latest performance in mid-October. Zoe Gertz, understudy for Elphaba in Australia, is also known to be leaving on a honeymoon in the near future.

As of now, Miss DiNoia will be staying with the production for six weeks, which puts her in Australia until December 13, 2009. Julie Reiber, former standby for Elphaba on Broadway and Los Angeles, has stated that she will be taking Miss DiNoia’s spot on Broadway until December 20, 2009.

Best wishes go out to all of the leading ladies for their hard work and especially to Ms. Harrison for a speedy recovery!
