Fan Interview: Chels Glassman

Today, we have a fan interview from Chels Glassman. Chels lives in California and has seen the show three times, two of which were in Los Angeles and one of which was in San Francisco. We’re thrilled to have her as our guest today. Check it out below!

Who is your favorite Elphaba and why?
My all time favorite Elphaba is Teal Wicks. She has such an incredible voice and is such an amazing talented actress. She was the first Elphaba I ever saw and she made the role come alive! All of the songs she sang were fantastic and you could really tell she loved what she was doing. She IS Elphaba! She also had incredible chemistry with both of the Glindas I saw her with. My second favorite would have to be Angel Reda.

Who is your favorite Glinda and why?
My all time favorite Glinda is Emily Rozek. She was so funny as Glinda and her Popular was hilarious! And she is has the most amazing voice! I liked that she made the role her own. Actually seeing her in the role made her my favorite theater actress. I recently saw her sing a few songs at Musical Mondays in LA and she just keeps getting better and better!

Which Elphie/Glinda pair do you think has the best chemistry?
Out of the pairs I saw I would have to say either Teal Wicks and Erin Mackey or Angel Reda and Emily Rozek. You could just tell that they were good friends on and off the stage. When Emily and Angel sang For Good it was so realistic that I actually teared up!

What other standouts have you seen in other principal roles? What about ensemble?
Derrick Williams as Fiyero, Lee Wilkof as The Wizard, Briana Yacavone as Nessarose. Derrick Williams will always be my favorite Fiyero! He has the most amazing voice and the best dance moves! After seeing him twice in the role I really hope he returns one day! Briana Yacavone was a stunning Nessarose! Her voice was amazing and her acting was superb! I loved her Wicked Witch Of The East! One of the most powerful moments of the show!  Lee Wilkof was the best Wizard! I usually don’t like the wizard scenes that much but Lee was so funny! His Wonderful was hilarious! In ensemble roles I really like Angel Reda and Natalie Daradich. They always looked like they were having so much fun!

Who are some standout understudies you have seen?
Angel Reda was the only understudy I actually saw but she’s definitely my 2nd favorite Elphaba. She really made the role her own and she killed Defying Gravity and No Good Deed! They were so amazing! I think she definitely should have been promoted. If she ever returns I would absolutely travel to see her!

Who is the nicest person you have met at the stagedoor?
Emily Rozek! She was so sweet and took time for pictures and autographs. She didn’t leave until she had seen everyone! When we met Derrick Williams I told him that we had seen him in Aida and he was really sweet, he stood around and talked to us about Aida and Wicked for a while! Briana Yacavone was really sweet too, she stood around and talked to us for a bit as well. Natalie Daradich was also super sweet when I met her in San Francisco.

What was your favorite time seeing the show?
The second time I saw Wicked had to be my favorite. I saw Emily Rozek and Angel Reda. Derrick Williams was Fiyero and Briana Yacavone was Nessarose. I  think that show was the best because EVERYONE in the cast was so incredible. Derrick Williams was such a great Fiyero. I love his voice and his Fiyero is really sweet  but self-centered. I also really liked Briana as Nessarose because she was really sweet in the beginning and in The Wicked Witch of the East she was so angry while still being sweet. And of course her voice was fantastic! Carol Cane was Morrible and she was so good as well!

Other than Wicked, what are some of your favorite shows?
My second favorite play has to be Aida, it’s closed now but the music is really incredible and the story line is really unique, I hope they bring it back sometime! I also really liked Rent when I saw it, Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp were fabulous! I’ve seen Phantom of the Opera twice and the second time was definitely better! I absolutely loved Trista Moldovan as Christine! The one play I really want to see that I’ve only seen on the DVD release is Jekyll & Hyde. I have the DVD they released with Coleen Sexton, Andrea Rivette and David Hasselhoff and I really liked that as well, It’s only playing in New York right now but hopefully they take it on tour again! I also would like to see Thoroughly Modern Millie because I’ve heard it’s fantastic!

Which “Wicked” alumni/current cast member’s work outside of “Wicked” do you admire most?
My favorites would have to be Emily Rozek, Lisa Brescia, Coleen Sexton and Saycon Sengbloh. I love everything Emily does, she was really good  as Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Lisa Brescia played Amneris in Aida, and I was really lucky to get to see her before the show closed. Coleen Sexton was fantastic as Lucy in Jekyll & Hyde. Saycon Sengbloh played Mimi in Rent AND Aida in Aida and I absolutely loved her portrayals of both. But that’s only a few! I love almost all of them!
