Fan Interview: Ceilidh

Today, we have a fan interview from Ceilidh, a California based fan of the show who has seen the show twenty one times between the Los Angeles and San Francisco productions. Check it out below!

Who is your favorite Elphaba and why?

My favorite Elphaba would have to be Vicki Noon. There are so many reasons. I’ve seen her seven and a half times in San Francisco, and from the first time I fell in love with her Elphaba. Her voice is beautiful – even Defying Gravity and No Good Deed seem effortless when she sings them. No Good Deed is my favorite part of every one of her performances – she puts so much into that scene/song. Vicki’s acting is really amazing. I can’t stress that enough. I don’t think I ever saw her break character unless it was Popular. Every time I would see her name on the understudy board I would inwardly do a little happy dance, and then I would stand by the understudy board and tell everybody who was disappointed that the lead wasn’t on that this was a good thing! That Vicki is amazing! They believed me after they saw the show 🙂 And she looks very natural and beautiful green – that’s something I always subconsciously look for. Also, she’s so, so nice at the stage door. She takes the time to relate to her fans, and is so genuine and personable. I am so happy that she was promoted to lead on the second national tour… She deserved it so much.

Who is your favorite Glinda and why?
I love it when I’m asked this question! My favorite Glinda is Alexa Green, the San Francisco understudy! She definitely should not be just an understudy. The first time I saw her – her second show – I already knew that she was my favorite, and that was just reinforced when I saw her fourth show. I’ve only had the chance to see her twice, though. Anyway. I love every single part of her Glinda. First of all, she looks so much like a Glinda. Her vocals are to die for, and both times I saw her Glinda shows I would find myself just waiting for more Glinda stage time. Teal, who was opposite Glinda, was on fire as well, but I was so in awe of Alexa I would always watch her whenever she was onstage. Her Galinda is very… valley girl and classic, stereotypical blonde, which I love. Alexa Galinda is so shallow and her comedic timing is amazing. Her Popular had me in hysterics, and I usually just watch the whole show, so that’s saying something. Her Glinda made the transition perfectly, and she was a more mature, elegant and wounded version of her Galinda. I’m Not That Girl Reprise was beautiful, as was every single song that Alexa did. And at the stagedoor she’s always so nice and genuine, even if I’m dragging her over to say hi on a non-Glinda show. I really wish I could have seen Vicki and Alexa together, that would have been a dream come true.

Which Elphie/Glinda pair do you think has the best chemistry?

I’m going to say Vicki and Natalie. Eden and Megan would probably have tied or won, but I don’t remember much about my first two shows. Vicki and Natalie are so obviously best friends – that can’t be hidden, even when Natalie’s supposed to be hating Vicki.

What other standouts have you seen in other principal roles? What about ensemble?

Oh my goodness, I literally just tried to list everybody. Yikes, that didn’t work. I love every single performer in Wicked! Let me just list a few, please oh please!

Etai BenShlomo as Boq, Nicolas Dromard as Fiyero, Lee Wilkof as the Wizard, Jody Gelb as Morrible!

As far as ensemble goes, once again I love everybody. Laura Dysarczyk is definitely a standout – she is an AMAZING swing, and I’ve seen her in so many tracks. I really want to see her as Nessa! EVERYBODY in the ensemble, and the whole Wicked, deserves their name in this section. Seriously.

Who are some standout understudies you have seen?

Alexa Green as Glinda!!!!!! See above paragraph for full details 🙂 I loved seeing Neka Zang as Nessarose. She plays her so different to Deedee, and while I love Deedee’s take, it was awesome to see a different kind of Nessa :). Tim Talman is an amazing Wizard, too. Absolutely loved him, second favorite Wizard ever.

Who is the nicest person you have met at the stagedoor?

Oh. My. Gosh. Are you trying to get me in trouble?? I love every single person I’ve met! I would list them off but I think my fingers would fall off. Go to the San Francisco stage door and you’ll see exactly what I mean. I love how I can have normal conversations with them, how it isn’t one of those hi thanks bye things that you hear about big stars doing. They’re all so awesome, and they don’t mind me calling them over to chat. 🙂

What was your favorite time seeing the show?

I don’t think I can pick… If I could remember more than a few details I would say my first time… I know I loved it! I loved seeing Teal Wicks’ last show, because I got to see two amazing Elphabas in the same night! (Vicki Noon was called on for act two). I loved my Neka Zang Nessarose show, and I loved the times I saw Alexa as Glinda… Oh! Okay, figured it out, but I’ll leave that prequel paragraph up there. 🙂 One time my dad just jumped into the car and drove me to Wicked, buying amazing seats. At the stage door afterwords Tim Talman came out and that was the first time I had met him. Silly me goes ‘Hi Tim! This is the first time I’ve ever met you! You were awesome! You never come out!’ Something like that… And he decides that because I’ve seen it eighteen times (at that point I think it was), he’ll take me backstage. I got to stand on the Orpheum stage and walk around backstage and look at props. One of the coolest moments of my life! It’s tiny! I loved it… Thank you Tim!

Other than Wicked, what are some of your favorite shows?

I’ll try and keep this one short! (My fingers are starting to hurt 🙁 ) I pretty much love every show I see. I absolutely adore RENT, Next To Normal… Hair… South Pacific… okay I’m done 🙂

Which “Wicked” alumni/current cast member’s work outside of “Wicked” do you admire most?

Definitely can’t chose just one… again… sorry! I am such a fan of Idina in everything she does… Shoshana Bean is just freaking amazing, and I have a ticket for her concert this summer. Also, Caissie Levy is phenomenal as Sheila in Hair!
