New and Returning Faces for West End’s WICKED

Beginning September 5, the West End production of WICKED will welcome new and returning faces to bring the show through its 10th anniversary celebration. Rachel Tucker will return to the role of Elphaba after having performed the role on Broadway. Suzie Mathers joins from the Australian production to play Glinda. Anita Dobson will take on the role of Madame Morrible and original cast member Martin Ball will return to play Dr. Dillamond. Idriss Kargbo will be playing Boq. The stand-by for Elphaba will be Alice Fearn. Oliver Savile will continue to play Fiyero, original cast member Katie Rowley Jones will continue as Nessarose, and Carina Gillespie will continue to stand-by for Glinda.

WICKED will celebrate its 10th anniversary in London on September 26, 2016. A limited number of tickets for this performance will go on sale to the general public on May 26, 2016 at noon via the WICKED UK website only.

DiNoia to Return to WICKED

Jennifer DiNoia will assume the role of Elphaba on Broadway on August 1. She replaces Rachel Tucker who will play her final performance on July 30. Ms. DiNoia has previously played the role in both National Tours, Broadway, Chicago, London, Korea, and Australia. In addition to her work in WICKED, she was an original cast member of WE WILL ROCK YOU in Las Vegas and performed in the 1st National Tour of MAMMA MIA. She joins a cast that includes Carrie St. Louis as Glinda, Judy Kaye as Madame Morrible, Peter Scolari as the Wizard, Jonah Platt as Fiyero, Dawn Cantwell as Nessarose, Michael Genet as Dr. Dillamond, and Zachary Noah Piser as Boq.

Benjamin Cast in WIZARD OF OZ at the Muny

P-J-BenjaminCasting is complete for WIZARD OF OZ at The Muny, which will play the St. Louis venue June 13-22. PJ Benjamin (former Wizard – Broadway, 1st Natl. Tour) will play Professor Marvel/The Wizard. The director is John Tartaglia with choreography by Ralph Perkins and musical direction by Valerie Gebert.

Fred Applegate (former Wizard – Broadway) and Christopher Fitzgerald (original Boq – Broadway) were both in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.

Lenny Wolpe (former Wizard – 1st Natl. Tour, Broadway) was in the original Broadway cast of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. Kate Loprest (former ensemble, u/s Glinda, Nessarose – Chicago) and Mamie Parris (former Elphaba – 1st Natl. Tour) were also in this cast.

David Garrison (former Wizard – San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Broadway, 1st Natl. Tour) and Emily Mechler (former ensemble, u/s Glinda – Broadway) both performed in the short-lived Broadway production of THE VISIT.

Today’s Tony nominations include several WICKED alums. Alex Brightman (former Boq – Broadway) is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his work in SCHOOL OF ROCK. Carmen Cusack (former s/b Elphaba – Sydney, Chicago; former Elphaba – 1st Natl. Tour) is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her work in BRIGHT STAR. Megan Hilty (former Glinda – Los Angeles, 1st Natl. Tour, Broadway; former s/b Glinda – Broadway), Jayne Houdyshell (former Madame Morrible – Broadway), and Saycon Sengbloh (former s/b Elphaba – Broadway) are all nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play, Hilty for her work in NOISES OFF, Houdyshell for her work in THE HUMANS, and Sengbloh for her work in ECLIPSED. Christopher Fitzgerald (original Boq – Broadway) is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical for his work in WAITRESS.

Hosted by James Corden, the Tony Awards will air on Sunday, June 12 at 8:00 pm on CBS.

A staged reading of BLISSFUL THE MUSICAL will be presented at the Davenport Theatre on Friday, May 6 at 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm.It will star William Youmans (former Dr. Dillamond – Original Broadway Cast, Chicago) and Matt Shingledecker (former Fiyero – Broadway, 1st Natl. Tour).

BLISSFUL THE MUSICAL “tells the story of when an entrepreneur’s kindness is mistaken for weakness, giving way to intrigue, lust, love, betrayal and extortion.” Book, music, and lyrics for BLISSFUL THE MUSICAL are by Peter Copani, with direction by Daniel Goldstein and musical direction by Doug Katsaros.
