The 1st National Touring cast of WICKED will host THE WICKED NIGHT AFTER CHRISTMAS on Monday, December 9, 2013, at 8:00 pm. The event will be held at The Laugh Factory (3175 North Broadway) in Chicago, Illinois.
As per the press release, “”THE Wicked NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS” is part of an ongoing series of performances and appearances by the touring company to support charitable causes which advance Wicked’s theme of acceptance and illuminate the musical’s message that people should not be judged on first impressions. The company believes that in these divisive times we must come together to support those in need throughout the country and around the world. In its eight years on the road, the company has raised over $2.5 million in donations for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and local AIDS service organizations all over the country.”
Many company members will participate in the event, including several of the leads. There will also be a live and silent auction, as well as opportunities for backstage tours and an auction for a walk-on role.

Making his 54 Below debut on December 15 is musical theatre write Michael Finke. The concert will include music from several of Finke’s musicals as well as new songs from upcoming projects. Included in the talent for the evening is Erin Mackey (former Glinda – Broadway, Los Angeles, Chicago; former ensemble, u/s Glinda – Chicago; former swing – 1st Ntl. Tour).

Derek Klena (Fiyero – Broadway) has been cast in the upcoming Broadway musical, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. Klena will play the role of Michael Johnson.
Based on the 1992 Robert James Waller novel of the same name, THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY features a score by Tony Winner Jason Robert Brown and a book by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Masha Norman. The romantic musical enters on a brief, four-day love affair between a National Geographic photographer and an Italian-American housewife in 1965 Iowa.
THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY will begin previews January 17, 2014, toward a February 20 opening night at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

On December 2, the producers of WICKED announced that the current engagement of the First National Tour production broke the Broadway in Chicago record for the largest one-week gross.
For the week ending December 1, WICKED took in a record-setting $1,935,432 at the box office. WICKED held the previous Chicago record, earning $1,764,428 during the week ending January 4, 2009, during the Chicago sit-down engagement.
WICKED is currently playing the Oriental Theatre through December 1.
- Chandra Lee Schwartz (former Glinda – Broadway, 1st Ntl. Tour) is a member of the Musical Theatre faculty at AMDA in Los Angeles.
- Richard H. Blake (former Fiyero – Broadway, 1st Ntl. Tour) made his Broadway debut in PRINCE OF CENTRAL PARK in 1989, at age fourteen. He was the youngest Broadway performer to have his name above the title of a show.
- Bridie Carroll (ensemble, u/s Madame Morrible – 2nd Ntl. Tour) was Tracy in the regional debut of HAIRSPRAY at North Shore Music Theatre.

Richard H. Blake (former Fiyero – Asian Tour, Broadway, 1st Ntl. Tour) will join the cast of the Broadway’s JERSEY BOYS beginning January 9, 2014 in the role of Tommy DeVito. Blake will succeed Andy Karl (former Fiyero – Broadway), who departs the production following the December 1 performance to star in the new musical, ROCKY. Blake is currently performing in the Broadway production of MATILDA.
Katie Webber (former Witch’s Mother, ensemble, u/s Nessarose – Broadway) joined the cast of JERSEY BOYS in the role of Lorraine on November 26.
Kathy Deitch (former ensemble, u/s Madame Morrible – Broadway, 1st Ntl. Tour; former ensemble – Pre-Broadway) and Sarah Bolt (former ensemble, u/s Madame Morrible – Broadway) are set for a holiday concert entitled “Tidings of Comfort & Joy: Broadway’s Kathy Deitch & Friends” on December 8 at Kirkwood’s Robert G. Reim Theater in St. Louis. Michael Londra will also perform. This family-friendly concert benefits “Retreat to Broadway,” a non-profit project that pairs live theater with experiences of personal renewal.
